Big ole bears!

'My people' won't let me go with them on their nightly bear 'looking' along the Chilkoot River. They think I might get eaten....but I hear that Tom and Bill get a little too close sometimes! Good thing my Auntie Kathy and Uncle Doug love me...ya never know when your people might be a bears taco!

If you lived here..Heather Lende would know your name!

Eagles come to Haines to spend the winter. 'Geezers, dogs and ducks' come in the summer!Heather Lende lives here all the year and writes wonderful articles for newspapers and magazines, a great book and is a comentator for NPR. Heather makes you want to move here.....maybe even in the winter.

Scully's got rules!

Scully wasn't home but we sure admired his 'art'!

Mosquito

William da duck doesn't need no sticking mosquito to fly...he's a duck!

The fireweed has gone to seed!

We've been asking the Alaskans when they thought we should be heading south to avoid the snow....when the fireweed goes to seed! We're heading south!

North Pole

The gas prices are pretty high in Canada, so I thought I would help out 'my people' and get a job as one of Santa's elfs. Not sure I like the hat tho.

Leaving Denali

We hated to leave Teklanika River Campground (29 miles inside Denali National Park) yesterday, but it was snowing and we had places to go and sights to see. This was our view as we followed 'William da Duck' and his people out of the park. We're headed for Fairbanks.

Denali

Denali National Park is 'beeee-u-ti-ful'! We loved looking at the pretty scenery, rainbows and wildlife....inspite of the rain and snow showers. The fireweed has gone to seed and we've seen the "termination dust" otherwise known as snow. Alaskans say it's time to head to the lower 48 but we have more to see and do!

Fireweed

When the fireweed goes to seed.....you better be heading south! Today we visited the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. I sure am glad that ole bear didn't want to lick me!

Moose Pass

We stopped in Moose Pass on our way to Girdwood to ride the tram up Mt. Alyeska and got to see the salmon swimming up stream.

Trail Lakes

Can you see the salmon swimming?

Interuptions

When can a 'guy' get in a nap? Ok, so I was supposed to be 'working'......but you can look out the window only so long!

Wifi

'My people' keep trying to get on the internet.

Fur Get Me Not

Hanging out in Seward.

I ride!

Need I say more? I am a 'pampered pooch'!

Sled Dog

Seward may be the start of the Iditarod, and I maybe the lead dog.....but I don't pull sleds!

Waiting and Waiting in Seward

"My people" left me home alone.....again......working... I am the finest 'guard dog' on the planet....doncha know!

Eaten by bears!

After we 'visited' the Diamond Willow Picker we stopped at the Alaska Carving Place. Now this is real Alaskan chain saw carving!

Diamond Willow

We heard that one of the best places to buy Diamond Willow was in Sterling, Alaska. So after wading thru bogs, full of mosquitos and sawing down trees (which are now on the roof of the RV) we decided to actully go to a place that sells it.....just for some 'window shopping'. We got to meet Roy Baldwin, whose been cutting diamond willow up in northern Alaska for 30 years. He taught us lots of stuff ...............Roy doesn't do chain saw carving, but he's got a tree full of 'em!

Yum Yum in Kenai

We camped on a bluff overlooking where the Kenai River meets the Cook Inlet. The round the clock entertainment was watching hundreds of fisherpersons, shoulder to shoulder 'dip netting' for salmon. What a sight to see. We 'splurged' one day and had dinner at the "Bus" around the corner......Alaskans like to have restaurants in old buses.

Anchor Point, Alaska

If you follow the road west in Alaska, this is as far as you can go....unless you are a duck. Then you can swim the oceans or fly through the skies.
