Dirt!

We finally made it to Chicken, Alaska...traveling on a very bumpy and narrow dirt road over the moutains. Our top speed for most of the way was 10mph. Looks like we need another bath. That's a gold dredge in the upper left of this picture. (We haven't struck our riches yet panning for gold, but we tried). Chicken is famous not only as the home of author Anne Purdy Hobbs, but they have the biggest and tastiest cinnamon rolls! You can make a meal of 'em! And we did!

Crossing the border into Alaska!

ALASKA!
We're headed to Chicken, Alaska! The USA border guard wanted to know all about me, my name, how old I am and what kind of fur I am too! The road was really bumpy but the views were great!

Top of the World

William and I are taking a look at the Top of the World! We can see Alaska! Bill wanted to do 'Field Day' in the Yukon, so we camped here for a couple of days. He and Tom made 100 ham radio contacts, even tho our generator was acting up. (We ran an extention cord from Jan and Tom's rig over to ours).

Sod Roof Cabin

This is an old sod roof cabin, original supply and stopping place for the McCormick Transportation Company along the 'Top of the World Hwy'.

Crossing the Yukon River

Here I am on the banks of the Yukon River in Dawson City waiting for the George Black Ferry. It was a busy day, we had to wait three hours to cross the river, but it was a free ride. You can see the 'Top of the World Hwy' on the other side of the river.

Along the Stewart River

' My People' finally let me out of the RV, for a 'pit stop' along the Yukon's Stewart River. We were on our way to Dawson City, it was a great day for a road trip.

Totem Pole

Here I am next to the 'Ksan Indian Totem Pole in Hazelton, British Columbia at the Historial Village, Museum and campground. We all loved this campground and can't wait to go back.

Sign Post Forest at Watson Lake, Yukon Territory

We got our sign up! It took us a long time to find space for our sign, it's a big 'forest'! We looked and looked for people we know, but didn't find them. Lots of clever signs and far away hometowns.

Yukon Territory

We did the Cassiar Hwy!

Jade City

Bill and I are trying to figure out how to get this jade in the RV.

Hyderized!

If you go to Hyder, Alaska you have to get Hyderized!

Yellow

I didn't want my new friend William to feel too 'yellow', so I put on my slicker.

North to Alaska!

This is our view on June 1, 2006 as we began our trip to Canada and Alaska. We were on Canadian Hwy 1 near Chilliwack, British Columbia, following our friends RV. We're traveling with our friends Jan and Tom and of course William and his 'Chick'! We took a rest stop along the Thompson River and watched a really long train snake along the riverbed.
